The new Simpson Marine Sailing Academy recently hosted a Summer Camp at its base at Ocean Marina Jomtien, Southeast Asia’s largest marina.

The Academy is backed by a Bangkok-based businessman who developed a love for sailing during Covid and wished to help the youth of Thailand develop their own love for the sport.

The Academy is set to play an important role in introducing more young people to sailing in Thailand, especially in the country’s two main boating areas: the Gulf of Thailand and around Phuket, in Phang Nga Bay and the Andaman Sea.

The Academy is starting with five Beneteau First 14s, two First 18s and one First 27, all easy to handle and designed to allow students to learn and build their confidence.

The Academy’s aim is to grow the fleet to about 20 boats within 18 months and host a series of racing and water-born orienteering activities for students.

Sailing programmes include four two-day courses: Bronze Level: Start Sailing, Silver Level: Safe Sailing, Gold Level: Independent Sailing and Platinum Level: Perfected Sailing. There’s then a six-day Bronze to Gold Dinghy Course held over six days or three weekends.

The Academy offers a three-day power boat course, IYT RB Master up to 15m, plus Marine Communications (VHF-SRC) and Yachting & Private Tuition courses. It also offers membership programmes, courses for schools and groups, as well as corporate and team building programmes.
