The boutique Dutch builder has revealed Carla Guilhem Design’s vision for the second unit of the Edge 65.
The first Edge 65 features an Aston Martin Racing Green hull colour
Van der Valk has released Carla Guilhem Design’s vision for the outdoor areas and interiors of the second Edge 65, currently in build at the Dutch yard’s Waalwijk facility in southern Netherlands.
Carla Guilhem, Creative Director of the Miami-based studio, admitted her new designs were inspired by cruising on the model’s first unit, which can reach 40 knots and was part of the Van der Valk display at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida.
The exterior livery can be chosen for hull two
Currently based in the Bahamas and designed with a shallow draft and outboard engines, the first Edge 65 – featuring an Aston Martin Racing Green hull colour – was developed by Van der Valk as “the ultimate weekender” for repeat clients who previously commissioned the 27.5m LeVen (2019) and 34m all-custom Lady Lene (2023).
The Edge 65 in build has the same hull design as the first and shares a similar layout, but offers a fresh configuration for the main saloon and an all-new decor that Guilhem hopes will appeal to a wide audience.
Covered dining on the aft deck
“The inspiration for my design came from the times I have spent on the first Edge 65. Even at the high speeds of which this boat is capable, the trips were amazingly stable and relaxing with no slamming. She rides the waves like a comfortable Bentley and the design reflects this with a masculine, car-like aesthetic,” Guilhem said.
“The Edge 65 is a seriously cool yacht that offers a fabulously fast drive, and my new design aims to encapsulate the onboard experience. Clean lines and shapes, and very light spaces are blended with grey and black tones to provide an easy-on-the-eye sense of harmony. From the delightful outdoor dining to the ultra-comfy cabins and bathrooms, this yacht is equally pleasurable on day trips and overnight cruises.”
Cor D. Rover designed the exterior of the Edge 65, while Studio Delta Naval Architects and Petestep Hull Design collaborated on the naval architecture. The second Edge 65 is available for sale and Van der Valk stated that “fast decision-makers can still opt for the exterior livery of their choice”.
While the first Edge 65 had a dedicated bar area, the second unit has a family-friendly feel with a more conventional saloon layout. The aft saloon doors can fully open and connect to an aft deck, which features a covered dining area and a pair of sofas between two fold-out aft bulwarks, while four Mercury Verado V12 outboards provide the power.
Van der Valk said Guilhem’s “smooth style and sophisticated look … perfectly captures the charm and charisma of this award-winning weekender while taking the sleek and colourful onboard vibe to new heights”.
