The Asia chapter of The International SeaKeepers Society (SeaKeepers Asia) has launched A Green Guide to Boating: Best Practices For Recreational Boating. Featuring forewords by marine conservationists Sylvia A. Earle and Fabien Cousteau, the guide can be downloaded for free (see link at bottom of article).

Based on an idea by the late Steven Lek to provide practical help, especially to boat owners, A Green Guide to Boating has been inspired by global practices. The Asia version is designed to be used regionally, with a US edition to follow.

The 58-page guide features practical tips to reduce a boat’s impact on the water while preventing pollution, as well as information on ‘choosing green’ and the actions that boaters can take to protect the marine environment.

Julian Chang, President of The International SeaKeepers Society, Asia, said: “With the support of our generous sponsors and donors, we are delighted to share A Green Guide to Boating. Designed as an easy-to-read reference, we hope the practical tips in this guidebook will help owners enjoy their boat in the most environmentally friendly way and reduce their carbon footprint.”

ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, SC Global Developments and Simpson Marine are the main sponsors of the Asia edition, while dozens of other organisations and individuals also supported the project.

Arthur Tay, Chairman and CEO of SUTL Group, owner of the ONE°15 Marina brand, said: “In support of SeaKeepers Asia’s A Green Guide to Boating, we embrace our role as custodians and stewards of our marinas by facilitating the protection of marine biodiversity and responsible boating. As users of the ocean, it’s important to protect it for our future generations.”
