Marc Anthony became the latest high-profile team owner in the UIM E1 World Championship after the music star and movie actor entered Team Miami for the 2024 season.

Anthony, who had a high-profile marriage to Jennifer Lopez, has sold more than 12 million albums and appeared in over 10 movies. He’s the second American from the music world to own an E1 team, following Steve Aoki (DJ), a DJ and producer.

“I’ve always been fascinated by all things nautical. Water is the essence of life and as the human population approaches the limit of what the planet can sustain, it’s time to cherish water for the essential value it has as an enabler of life,” said Anthony, 55, a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.

“I’m thrilled to join forces with E1 to welcome a new era of competition and a new standard of race excellence. I’m looking forward to embarking on a journey that has never been witnessed before, an era where passion is a given and winning is a must.”

Up to 10 teams will compete on Racebird electric boats in the inaugural E1 championship, with each choosing two pilots to share driving duties. The season starts in Saudi Arabia with the opening event in Jeddah from February 2-3, when Team Miami and Aoki Racing Team will be among an exciting line-up of entrants including franchises owned by sporting celebrities.

These include American football legend Tom Brady (Team Brady), tennis icon Rafa Nadal (Team Nadal), cricket star Virat Kohli (Team Blue Rising), football icon Didier Drogba (Team Drogba) and F1 driver Sergio Perez (Team Mexico), as well as Venice Racing Team.

Rodi Basso, co-founder and CEO of E1, said: “E1’s list of owners exemplifies how our championship’s strategy is leading the way in sports marketing and we’re thrilled to have Marc join our roster of global icons. His commitment to worthy causes and sustainability mirrors our own passion to drive change and improve the health of marine environments.”

Anthony is operating Team Miami through his company Magnus, which is set to host an event in Miami during the second E1 season as the championship makes its way to American shores.

Alejandro Agag, co-founder and Chairman of E1, said: “It’s a great sign for the future of E1 that we’re already speaking about our season two destinations. With Marc bringing our series to Miami, I could think of no finer place for E1 to make its US debut.”

Magnus says it aims to elevate the E1 experience by organising a glamorous weekend that combines racing with entertainment including a star-studded concert and the renowned fan village, Acceleration Festival.

Felipe Pimiento, COO of Magnus, said: “This is a very exciting venture for us at Magnus and continues to solidify our footprint in the sports world. The E1 platform will allow us to continue to offer fans the best-class sports entertainment while being conscious about the environment and doing our part to preserve our oceans.”
