Leopard Catamarans has unveiled the new flagship of its sailing yacht range with a surprise world premiere of its 52 model at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival.

Franck Bauguil, Leopard’s Senior Vice President of Yacht Ownership & Product Development, has described the new model as “without a doubt the most versatile catamaran in its class.”

Alexander Simonis of Dutch naval architecture firm Simonis Voogd Design added that “the new Leopard 52 belongs to a new generation of catamarans that achieve better stability and comfort while offering a larger rig and more sail power”.

Constructed by South African shipyard Robertson & Caine, the Leopard 52 replaces the Leopard 50, the brand’s previous flagship sailing cat.

According to the yacht’s design team, the new flagship is both larger and faster than its predecessor, offering a 17 per cent increase in up-wind sail area. Combined with a taller mast, overlapping genoa, and optional square-top mainsail, Simonis detailed that  “owners can expect less motoring and more pure sailing pleasure” on the Leopard 52.

When not under sail, the Leopard 52 is powered by an environmentally-friendly hybrid electric propulsion package, which is capable of hydro-regeneration when under sail. Other sustainable elements on board include up to 1,600W of solar panels and lithium battery systems, with owners able to opt for fully electrical cooking appliances for increased efficiency.

Interiors have been designed with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, featuring a fully opening saloon and aft cockpit as well as a forward door offering direct access. Owners can choose from a variety of layouts, ranging from three to six cabins, with an optional crew cabin and various cockpit dining choices.

“From private owners and long-term liveaboards to charter guests and families, the yacht adapts to every lifestyle with unmatched flexibility,” commented Bauguil. “We are very proud to bring such a forward-looking model to the market.”

The Leopard 52 will make its US debut in October at the Annapolis Sailboat Show in Maryland. The yacht is available for private sale or through a yacht ownership programme through The Moorings.
