IGY to operate Egypt’s IL Monte Galala Marina

One of Egypt’s leading property developers, Tatweer Misr has appointed IGY Marinas to manage the 150-berth marina on the Red Sea coast.

Tatweer Misr, one of Egypt’s leading property developers, has appointed IGY Marinas as the operator of the upcoming IL Monte Galala Marina on the country’s Red Sea coast. Building on IGY Marinas’ initial engagement as Marina Operations Advisor in February 2026, the new agreement marks the next stage of the partnership, with IGY assuming long-term responsibility for operating the marina.
Steve English, CEO of IGY Marinas, and Dr Ahmed Shalaby, co-founder, President and CEO of Tatweer Misr, signed the agreement in the presence of Dr Ahmed Youssef, CEO of Egyptian Tourism Authority, during the 2026 Monaco Yacht Show. IGY currently operates about 24 marinas across more than a dozen countries in the Americas, Europe and Middle East.

Located close to Galala Mountain, about a two-hour drive southeast of Cairo, IL Monte Galala is a mixed-use development by Tatweer Misr, the first Egyptian real estate developer to appoint a globally recognised marina operator.
The marina is part of the property’s Marina Towers phase, which represents a US$1 billion investment and includes 2,600 residential and serviced hospitality units in high-rise towers and two Marriott-operated hotels, plus Egypt’s first mountaintop Crystal Lagoon®.
The marina, itself representing an investment of about US$44 million, will offer berthing capacity for more than 150 yachts, with 10 per cent dedicated to yachts over 40m, including two 80m berths. A helipad will provide access to the marina and superyachts anchored or cruising nearby.
Still under construction, IL Monte Galala – Italian for Galala Mountain – is among signature properties by Tatweer Misr (Arabic for ‘Development of Egypt’), which was founded in 2014.
With a name inspired by Italian yachting destinations including Portofino, IL Monte Galala features a masterplan by Italian architect Gianluca Peluffo that includes low-rise properties and the upcoming Marina Towers. Tatweer Misr expects the development to create about 8,000 direct and nearly 25,000 indirect employment opportunities, and eventually welcome more than one million visitors annually.
Dr Shalaby said: “Since launching IL Monte Galala, we have believed in the Red Sea’s potential as a year-round destination for tourism, investment and quality of life. Realising this ambition requires a golden triangle of enabling public-sector frameworks, private-sector investment and execution, and specialised international expertise.
“Our partnership with IGY Marinas brings this model to life, combining Tatweer Misr’s development vision with global marina expertise to unlock Egypt’s coastal potential, strengthen its position in international yachting and marine tourism, and create new opportunities for sustainable growth and investment.”
As well as IL Monte Galala, Tatweer Misr’s developments include Fouka Bay and Salt (both in Ras El Hekma) and D-Bay (Sahel) on Egypt’s north coast, as well as Bloomfields and Rivers in east and west Cairo respectively. The Salt development will also include a marina, with IGY Marinas among companies being considered as operators.
