Albatross extended and refitted

Damen Yachting has revealed the 79.2m Albatross at it nears completion of a 26-month refit and extension.
Damen Yachting has splashed the 79.2m, 2,149GT Albatross, as the newly extended yacht entered the water ahead of final outfitting and sea trials following a 26-month refit in the Netherlands.
Albatross was originally a 72.2m superyacht built in the US by Delta Marine and delivered in 2016, with exterior design by Monaco-based Espen Oeino International and interiors by Zuretti Design, headquartered in Nice. Its original volume of 2,066GT made it the second most voluminous yacht built in North America.
The extensive refit project at Damen Yachting – which began in early 2023 – includes a 7m extension, which resulted from the removal of 10m and the addition of 17m. London-based Harrison Eidsgaard oversaw the redesign of the exterior and interior, with new highlights including a beach club featuring a wellness centre, large exterior pool, winter garden and enlarged exterior seating areas.
Michel Coens, Head of Refit & Services at Damen Yachting, said: “It has been an incredible journey undertaking the refit of Albatross in collaboration with everyone involved including the owners’ team, Harrison Eidsgaard and our Amels Refit specialists.
“The scale and magnitude of this refit has been a team effort. We have reconfigured the layout and carried out major engineering reworks. Her transformation is stunning. You can still see hints of her original DNA, which have been reshaped and reworked to meet the owners’ needs moving forward.”
Damen Yachting stated that the biggest challenge was the extension of the hull and ensuring the yacht’s stability. To be able to do this, the exhaust systems were lifted due to the increased weight and re-engineering of systems. Albatross has accommodation for 12 guests and two staff, as well as 18 crew plus the captain, who relayed the clients’ sentiments.
“The owners are passionate about boating and are eagerly awaiting the boat’s return,” said Captain Nathan Milicich.
