CRN has announced that the hull and superstructure carpentry have been completed on the 70m Project Thunderball, which is currently under construction at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona. Following confirmation of the construction milestone, the Italian builder stated that the full-custom steel and aluminium superyacht is on track for its scheduled launch and delivery in 2026.

According to the shipyard, Project Thunderball “is progressing with remarkable speed”, with the installation of metal decorative components nearly completed and insulation work in the main saloon and wheelhouse finished. CRN also reported that the design and fabrication of the wooden exterior fixtures are “in full swing”.

The next steps include the finishing of the first fully-furnished guest cabin interiors by July, followed by the completion of the fairing phase by the end of summer, and the commencement of hull painting in September 2025.

CRN and the Ferretti Group Superyachts Division collaborated with Dutch studio Vripack on the yacht’s naval architecture and exterior design, while Italian studio Nauta Design has styled the interiors. Brokerage company Y.CO is also involved as the owner’s representative on the project.

CRN has described the yacht’s exterior as featuring a “classic elongated bow, a sleek profile and graceful, sailboat-inspired lines, complemented by gently curved bilges and a seamless surface”. The interiors are characterised by “timeless details” that reflect a “deep connection to maritime culture”, according to the shipyard.

Spread over five decks, the 1,100GT project will have a beam of 11m and accommodate up to 12 guests in an owner’s suite and five VIP cabins. There will also be nine cabins for 15 crew.

Project Thunderball will be powered by MAN V12-1213kW engines and will be able to reach a top speed of 16 knots. The superyacht has also been designed with sustainability in mind, equipped with what CRN has described as a “peak shaving system” to help reduce fuel consumption and optimise energy efficiency on board, as well as also offering a silent mode at anchor.

CRN recent delivered the 67m Amor À Vida and is working on at least two more superyacht projects alongside the 70m Project Thunderball.
