As Burgess continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the superyacht specialist announces investment from US-based Ancient.
Burgess has announced a “strategic investment” from Ancient, an investor in specialty finance and specialised service companies, and whose portfolio includes Sotheby’s, Solairus Aviation and Faherty.
Headquartered in New York, Ancient was founded in 2021 by Alexander Klabin, Chairman and CEO, whose other roles include Chairman of Sotheby’s Financial Services.
Loren Easton, Ancient’s Head of Private Investing, explained why Ancient chose to invest in Burgess.
“Burgess represents the highest standards in the superyacht industry,” Easton said. “Burgess’ enduring legacy, global reach and commitment to service align perfectly with Ancient’s mission to invest in category-defining platforms built for the long term.”
The new partnership marks a significant move for Burgess as the superyacht specialist continues to expand its global footprint, enhance its technical capabilities and grow across brokerage, charter, new build and yacht management.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, the company stated that “the investment from Ancient will support continued innovation in digital tools, operational infrastructure and client services”.
Jonathan Beckett, CEO, Burgess
Jonathan Beckett, CEO of Burgess, has led the brokerage house since succeeding founder Nigel Burgess in 1992.
“Partnering with Ancient gives Burgess the resources, scale and creativity we want to accelerate our leadership position in the industry, without compromising our independence or our culture,” said Beckett, who features in a Leader interview in Yacht Style Issue 86.
Ian Armstrong, Burgess’ Managing Director, added: “This partnership empowers us to invest further in technology, talent and the evolving needs of our clients, while remaining true to the values that define Burgess.”
Burgess, which has 18 offices worldwide, stated that its leadership team – including its veteran brokerage, charter and technical services experts – remains unchanged and will continue to guide the company into its next phase.
With and a growing presence in emerging yachting-enthusiast hubs, Burgess is positioned to respond to increased demand for larger vessels, global cruising itineraries, advanced sustainability solutions, and more sophisticated onboard integration.
