The Aquila 50 Sail is the first model in a new series of sailing catamarans from one of the world’s leading powercat builders.

Aquila staged the world premiere of its 50 Sail at this year’s Miami International Boat Show, with the model set to make its Europe debut at the International Multihull Show (April 22-26) in La Grande Motte on France’s south coast. Aquila’s 44 Sail is set to debut later this year, with the 65 Sail scheduled to splash in 2027.
Conceived by an Aquila leadership team boasting vast sailing experience, each of Aquila’s sailing catamarans have been developed with long-standing design partner J&J Design, the Slovenia-based studio that has designed many sail boats among its portfolio of 400 production boat designs for 70 builders.
Throughout the Aquila Sail range, propulsion options include diesel engines or Hybrid Ocean Drive™, the latter providing silent electric propulsion or diesel power when conditions demand it.
Aquila signatures carried over from the powercat line include flybridge-to-bow stairs and a solid foredeck with a large seating area. Inside, a well-appointed saloon and galley have panoramic windows to increase natural light.
On the 50 Sail, owners can choose four, five or six cabins in the hulls. Each cabin has extensive headroom and storage, a private entrance and an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower. The optional owner’s suite offers a queen-sized bed, large hull windows, generous storage and en-suite bathroom with washer/dryer utility area.
Jean Raas, Chief Product Officer and CEO of Aquila USA, said: “Introducing our Sail range was a natural evolution for Aquila and marks an exciting new chapter in our journey as a global boat manufacturer.
“Our team brings decades of hands-on sailing knowledge and industry experience, which we’ve drawn upon to enter the sailing market with intention and precision. The 50 Sail embodies this expertise, and we were delighted to showcase her at the 2026 Miami International Boat Show.”
Raas is a former USA Sailing team member team and Olympic triallist, while his brother Alain Raas, Aquila’s Global Brand Director, sailed competitively from an early age and has completed trans-Pacific crossings. Lex Raas, their father and Aquila’s co-founder, is a long-time sailor and also the founder of Leopard Catamarans.
Also within Aquila, Chief Revenue Officer Nick Harvey is a lifelong sailor and worked on sailing catamarans during over two decades with Groupe Beneteau, Global Service Manager Gareth Wood captained large sailing catamarans, and Chief Designer Jure Zule has sailed competitively since young.
Frank Xiong, CEO of Sino Eagle Group, which manufactures the Aquila portfolio, has extensive experience building sailing catamarans at facilities in China, where the new Aquila Sail models are being built in Hangzhou.
